O. Thomas JOHNSON

Tom Johnson, a citizen of the United States, was appointed to the Tribunal in 2012. Before his appointment to the Tribunal he was a partner in the law firm of Covington & Burling LLP, where his practice focused on arbitrations between states and foreign investors and on land and maritime boundary disputes.

Mr. Johnson studied at Stanford University (BA 1968; JD, 1971).   Before entering the private practice of law in 1975, he served in the Office of the Legal Adviser of the United States Department of State, including as Special Assistant to the Legal Adviser.  From 2002 to 2009, he was a member of the ICSID Panel of Arbitrators, appointed by the United States.  Since 2010, he has been a Lecturer in Law at the Columbia Law School, where he teaches a course on international investment law.

Mr. Johnson is the author of several articles. principally concerning international dispute resolution.
